Indeed.com Review: Is It Legit or a Scam?

If you’ve ever searched for a job, chances are you’ve come across Indeed.com – one of the leading sites to find jobs. The Indeed website has millions of job postings from employers worldwide, so it can be a great resource for job seekers. But is it legit? In this article, we’ll take an in-depth look at Indeed and provide an Indeed review to help you decide if it’s worth your time and money.

What Is Indeed.com?

Indeed.com Logo

Indeed.com is a free-to-use job search site that allows employers to post jobs and get matched with potential candidates. It’s used by over 250 million people worldwide and helps employers find qualified applicants quickly and easily. The site also has extensive resources such as salary information, resume tips, career advice, and more to help job seekers get ahead in their search process.

Indeed was founded in November 2004 as an American global employment website for job listings. Co-headquartered in Austin, Texas, and Stamford, Connecticut, with additional locations across the world, it operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Recruit Co. Ltd. in Japan.

This search engine exemplifies vertical search because it focuses on a certain niche. More than 60 nations and 28 languages can use Indeed right now. Indeed.com overtook Monster.com as the most popular U.S. job board in October 2010.

The site compiles job postings from many sources, such as job boards, staffing agencies, trade groups, and individual companies’ career pages. They make money by charging businesses and recruiters for access to more advanced resume and job posting tools. Job seekers have had the option of applying to open positions directly on Indeed since 2011. The site also features a place to publish and save resumes.

The Indeed website

Indeed’s website has three main tabs: “Find jobs,” “Company reviews,” and “Find salaries.” Let’s see them one by one.

“Find jobs” tab

Indeed Landing Page

You will find two search fields in this tab. The “What” field is where you type the kind of job or position you’re looking for, while the “Where” field is where you enter your preferred workplace.

“Company reviews” tab

Company Reviews

As the tab name suggests, it offers job seekers reviews of companies they are interested in. This includes the jobs offered by the company, salaries, rating overview, questions and answers, interview insights, common questions, and location of the company. It’s a great way to know if the job you’re interested in is from a good company.

If you’re wondering what a former employee (or even a current employee) thinks about their employer, you can check company reviews on Indeed! You find positive and negative reviews (this is how you know this site is honest).

You can even find Indeed reviews from current and former employees! Though honest, these reviews are also subject to a moderation process where those that violate the Terms of Service are not posted or removed. So be mindful if you’re going to write feedback about your employer.

“Find salaries” tab

Find Salaries

In this tab, you will find 2 fields: a field to enter your job title and a field that automatically detects your location. This tab will help you get a grasp on how much the salary is in a job of your interest.

Once you enter the job title and click the Search button, it will lead you to a search results page showing different job titles of the kind you searched for, the number of job openings of each, and their respective salaries. This feature is incredible if you want to find out the best-paying job in your niche!

How does Indeed work?

Indeed for job seekers

If you are a job seeker, this is how you may use indeed to look for jobs. First off, go to indeed.com to enter the website.

Search for a job

You can search for a job immediately and sign up later. You can also sign up right away. It’s up to you. If you prefer to look for jobs right away, enter the type of job you’re looking for in the “What” field and enter your preferred location in the “Where” field. Take note that you can enter “Work from home” in the “Where” field to look for remote jobs. In this example, I looked for an encoder job in a work-from-home setup. See the results page below.

Job Details, Qualifications, Benefits

On the left side of the results page, you’ll see the results, a.k.a. the encoder jobs I searched for. If you look at the right side of the page, you’ll see additional information provided about the job.

This contains the job details (salary and job type), qualifications, benefits (salary, insurance, etc.), full job description, and hiring insights. This feature is very helpful for job seekers and employers alike to find the perfect job and perfect candidates.

If you find the details interesting and you want to get the job, click “Apply now.”

Sign up

Indeed - Create An Account

You will be directed to the sign-up page where you have different options to sign up: via Google, Apple, Facebook, or another email address. Select your preferred method and click Continue.

Job Seeker Or Employer

You will find on the next page that you have to choose whether you’re a job seeker or an employer. Choose and click “job seeker” (because, in this case, you are).

Add your contact information

Indeed - Add Your Contact Information

The next page has several fields you need to fill in (I know you don’t like filling up forms, but this is for your future!). Fill them up accordingly and click Continue.

Add a resume

Upload Or Make Resume

For this step, you choose whether to upload a pre-made resume or make your resume on Indeed. If you chose the first, then all you have to do is upload your resume.

However, the latter is recommended because it is better if the employer can see your resume right away without them having to download it. If I were the employer, I’d rather view the applicant’s resume online than download it.

Build your profile

Make Your Indeed Profile

In this part, you just have to fill out some more fields. Give your qualifications and job preferences (like the salary and schedule you like) to see the best jobs for you. You can also hide jobs by providing certain details on your preferences. Aside from these, you can let employers know that you can work as soon as possible!

Indeed for Employers

It’s easy to use Indeed to post a job. As soon as you’re ready, they’ll give you a series of easy questions to guide you through writing your post. What you share in response to these inquiries will help you attract top-tier applicants.

Once you have a job description written up, posting the opening should take no more than 10 minutes. Let’s dissect the components of a successful job ad and get you on your way to hiring top talent.

Create an employer account

Create An Employer Account

Start by creating an employer account where you’ll be asked about your company details. Fill up the fields and click “Save and continue.” Note that you are required to fill in the fields for your company name and your first and last name.

Provide Basic Information

Indeed - Provide Basic Information

For this step, you just need to provide your company’s industry, company description, job title, and where you’d like to advertise your job posting. That’s it; then click “Save and continue.”

Describe the job

Describe The Job

Many studies have shown that including these elements in a job description increases the likelihood of a candidate accepting the position. You should begin with the necessary prerequisites.

Keep the paragraphs short and simple so that it is simple to read. Make the text easier to scan by separating ideas into bullet points. Write it in a cheerful, conversational tone using simple words that everybody can comprehend.

Include details about the job and Compensation

Afterward, you’ll be asked to fill out some required fields that employers look for in prospective employees. While it’s tempting to save space, including extra information about the position could help you attract top-tier applicants.

Did you know that most people who are actively seeking employment do so during their free time or after they have gone to bed? Our findings suggest that job-seekers conduct searches based on criteria such as skills, WFH/remote work, work hours, and commute to choose whether or not to apply. If you provide job seekers with all they need to know, you have a better chance of getting their attention.

To name just a few examples of crucial details to include:

  • Pay Scale
  • Perks
  • Details of the shift
  • Location
  • Necessary Knowledge and Abilities
  • Job Schedule: Full-Time or Part-Time
  • Freelancing/Working From Home

You can never give too much detail. All the information you provide will be utilized to rank your job posting higher and attract more qualified applicants.

Set Application preferences

Setting Application Preferences In Indeed

Identifying qualified candidates and deciding who to contact for interviews is made easier with Indeed’s free applicant qualifications and assessment tools.

You may screen out unqualified applicants instantly by asking them yes/no questions on the Applicant Qualifications page. Indeed has a library of pre-built questions that can be filtered by job title to help you gather the necessary information from applicants quickly and easily, but you can also make your own questions and put as many as you like on the application. Find out more about putting a candidate’s skills to use on Indeed.

The Responsive Employer Badge is an indicator that you are more likely to reply to applicants by sending automated rejections when a candidate does not fit your requirements.

If you wish to examine the knowledge and abilities of your applicants, you can do so with an additional examination. You can pick from among 135 different types of pre-made evaluations, ranging from those testing broad knowledge to those targeting specific job functions. Candidates’ knowledge of a subject and enthusiasm for the position might be confirmed by a pre-employment test.

Including a skills test with your job postings can be beneficial for at least two reasons: (1) it can help you rapidly choose which applications to call for interviews, and (2) it can show that a candidate is serious about the role if they take the time to complete a skills test.

Sponsor a post or put up a free one.

On Indeed, you can post a job for free in most cases. However, if you’re hoping to attract a bigger pool of candidates, “sponsoring” your job will increase its exposure to potential candidates. There are no long-term commitments involved when you sponsor, and you only have to pay when the Sponsored Job is really done. When you sponsor someone, you gain access to Instant Match, a function of Indeed that displays and invites individuals whose resumes to match your job description.

If you want to advertise a job opening, should you do it for free or pay for ad placement? If you need to fill a position quickly, sponsorship might be the way to go. It’s also helpful if you’re in a competitive job market, have a solid job description and title but aren’t getting any responses from qualified applicants, or need to fill a position that’s difficult to fill due to its specific requirements.

Have your coworkers and the people you plan on employing look over the job description before you put it up. Those who will be working closely with the new hire, as well as previous employees in the position, should be consulted for input.

Pros & Cons Of Using Indeed

There are both pros and cons when using Indeed to find a job or apply for one – here are some key points to consider:

Pros

  • Wide variety of jobs listed. There is an enormous selection of jobs available on the site ranging from entry-level positions to high-level executive roles;
  • Easy sign-up process. You don’t need any special qualifications or certifications to create an account;
  • Employers can filter applications. Employers can narrow down their search by entering specific criteria (e.g., experience level, education level), making it easier for them to find qualified applicants;
  • Resume-building tools. You can create an impressive resume with the tools offered by Indeed, which makes applying for jobs much easier;

Cons

  • Quality control issues. With so many jobs listed on the site, there may be quality control issues with some postings;
  • No guarantee of results. Job searches don’t always yield results due to several factors such as competition or location;
  • Costs money. Employers have to pay a fee to use the premium services on the site, which means that they might not get as many applications compared to other free sites;

Overall, it indeed provides a valuable resource for those looking for work or trying to recruit employees into their company, but it isn’t without its flaws. It’s important to weigh both pros and cons before deciding whether it’s right for you or your business. In the case of Indeed, there are more pros than cons.

Thumbs Up Icon

Indeed is a legitimate company that helps you find jobs most suitable for you. Though this company is indirectly involved in the hiring process, it is very helpful in ways other job sites are not. Indeed’s other features, like job alerts, are useful as well. This site also lets you build a resume and profile!

Though the job search process can be daunting, Indeed makes it easier by providing an array of helpful tools and resources. The site makes it easy to find jobs that match your skill set, interests, education level, and even salary expectations! You can also use the site to build an online resume that will help you stand out from other candidates when applying for jobs online or in person.

In conclusion, it’s important to remember that there’s no such thing as a perfect job search engine. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses, so it’s important to research each site before deciding which one will work best for you and your needs.
